Weekly Updates 2009
Opening Week Ganes Creek 2009
The first detecting week of 2009 started off the summer in style
bringing home from their trip to Ganes Creek 14 ounces of gold.
There were 6 nuggets found over the 1 ounce mark, the largest
uncovered by Loraine Cruise on the last day of the week, and
weighed 2.65 ounces. Our start up crew this summer also had
something to smile about as the brought in an additional 11
ounces of gold. Including a 4.5 ouncer, found by our resident
metal detecting guru, Dave Rankin, and a 2.45 ounce nugget
found by Bob Carlson. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves,
and our thanks goes out to our startup crew and our guests from
week one, for their positive attitudes and steady enthusiasm.
The End of June Brings Home the Gold
Our second group of the year had a week of detecting that will
bring a smile to your face, as they took home as a collective
group 22.32 ounces of gold. During the course of the week one
small area in particular had everyone's blood pumping, as the
group pulled out over 12 ounces of nuggets from an area only
about an acre in size. Altogether there were 8 nuggets found
over the 1 ounce mark throughout the week, with the prize of
the biggest nugget of the week going to Bernie Pendergast, who
unearthed a 3.39 ounce beauty, barely edging out Buzz
Rassmusen's 3.15 ounce nugget. To check out pictures from
the first and second week click on the Ganes Creek Pictures
2009 link, featured below this summary. Thanks goes out to
everyone in week two, and we look forward to seeing familiar
faces in 2010.
The 4th of July Crew
The easy going group from week three, were small in numbers,
but big on returns, during the week preceding the 4th of July
weekend. The entire group found multiple nuggets, the biggest of
those nuggets, 2.96 ounces, being retrieved by Dave Rankin after
dinner one evening. The total for the week came to 12.61 ounces,
with several nuggets right at or near the one ounce mark, found by
Gene Hanson, Buzz Rassmussen, Tom Reyes, and Steve W. The
'Ganes Creek Crew' would like to extend their thanks to the men from
week three for their laid back demeanor and positive attitudes, they were
a pleasure to have, and we hope to see them again next
season.
Final Group of 09’ Leads the Way
The final week of detecting for 2009 set the high marks for the
season, bringing home as a group a total of 26.31 ounces. The
largest nugget of the year was also found during the final week, the
lucky detectorist, Marko Slusarczuk, who took home an awesome
looking 6.76 oz crowd pleaser. During the week 5 other nuggets
were found over the 1 oz including a nearly 2 ouncer by Brian Berg,
and another large nugget by Marko, a 4.22 oz surprise, found right
across from the wash house in camp on the first full day of detecting.
The total gold recovered by detectorists over the course of a shortened
2009 season amounted to 86.31 ounces, nearly $80,000 dollars worth
of gold at today’s prices.
Our thanks go out to everyone who visited Ganes Creek this year. We
enjoyed meeting the new dectorists and always look forward to seeing
and talking with our returning clientele and friends, some who have been
reaping the rewards at Ganes Creek for several years. We wish everyone
a great fall and winter season and look forward to seeing new and familiar
faces in 2010
