Detecting Updates 2011
Season Openers June 12-18 and June 19-25
The first two weeks of 2011 yeilded nearly 30 ounces of gold, including
a 5.09 ounce quartzy nugget found by Bernie Pendergast, and a solid
2.61 ounce nugget found by Steve Herschbach. The groups from the
first two weeks were a hard working bunch, and a pleasue as always to
be around and host. Our thanks go out to them, and our hopes that each
of them had a comfortable and safe trip home.
Third Week Sets the High Mark of the Season
June 26 - July 2
Ganes Creek produced it's best week of the 2011 season so far, as
detectorists from the third week uncovered 24.79 ounces of gold. The
highlight of the week came on the last day of the week, when Tom Cooper,
who has been a regular at Ganes Creek for the past several years, uncovered
his largest nugget, a solid 10.64 ounce beauty. The nugget was found in the
up stream portion of Ganes Creek, and has been the largest nugget found in
that area to date. Other highlights of the week included a 1.91 ounce nugget
found by Marko Slusarczuk, as well as a series of 1/2 and 3/4 ounce nuggets
uncovered by different individuals throughout the week. We would like to
thank the third group for their upbeat attitudes and great dispositions.
Mid Summer Detecting July 10-16
Our group in the middle, despite some wet weather, and some tough days of
detecting seem to keep a smile on their face, which made for a good week.
The largest nugget of the week, was unearthed by Ganes Creek crew member
Danny Manyard, a quartzy, gold laden nugget weighing 7.25 ounces! Other
highlights from the week included Keith Magnuson, who seemed to find gold
in one form or another almost everywhere he went, including two nuggets right
below the 1 ounce mark, and finally Lisa Montgomery who found a pretty 1/2
ounce nugget not long before her, and her families plane departed. The total
gold found for the week came to 13.85 ounces.
Nice Weather and Good Detecting July 17-23
Our fifth week of the 2011 season enjoyed some relatively good weather
during their time at Ganes Creek, and took home 19.85 ounces of Gold. Mindy
Desens, who joined us for her birthday, had a nice week. She found two nuggets
that both came in just shy of an ounce and took home over three ounces of
gold during her time with us here at Ganes. The prize for the biggest nugget
of the week went to Gene Hanson, who corraled a 5 ounce nugget, as well as
several others during the week. The fifth week found over 56 nuggets of various
sizes during their stay, and were a fun group to have around and to visit with. We
hope everyone enjoyed their time with us here at Ganes, had a nice return trip, and enjoys the rest of their summer.
The "Good Guy" group bring July to a close
July 24-31
The nice gentelmen from the 6th week took to the tailing piles and hills of the
Ganes Creek Valley. Highlights of their week included a nice looking, solid 6.58 ounce nugget found by Tyrie Biving's and a beutiful 1.68 ounce nugget found by
Richard "Jake" Jacobson. The total gold taken for the week came to 15.38 ounces.
We would like to thank everyone from the week for continuing the trend of being
great guests and a pleasure to host. We wish them all the best.
The Final Group of the Season July 31 - August 6
Our last group of the year battled with the elements in what can only be
described as monsoon like weather at times, and took home with them 13.68
ounces of gold. The largest nugget taken home was found by Dennis Lundine,
and weighed 2.84 ounces. During the final week there were five nuggets
uncovered over the 1 ounce mark, three of those found by the hardworking Gary Watts. Who on the last evening before the plane arrived, went out one last
time after dinner and unearthed a nice 1.40 ounce nugget from the tailing piles behind camp. These guys were a great group, and we wish them all the best
and hope their travels take them home safely.
The 2011 metal detecting season was filled with big nuggets, wet weather,
and really some of the nicest groups we had over the years at Ganes Creek.
The total amount of gold found during 2011 came to 116.54 ounces. That
equated out to a little over 16 ounces per week, and to a total value of roughly
$185,000 dollars worth of gold. The largest of the nugget year went to Tom Cooper, who's really solid 10.64 ounce beauty, took the prize and stole the show. He was however in good company, as there were 4 other nugget found
that weighed in over the 5 ounce mark including two that weighted 7.25 and
6.58 ounces respectively. For the season the total number of nuggets that came near or surpassed the coveted 1 ounce mark came to over 25 nuggets.
We would like to send our thanks out one final time to everyone that visited
Ganes Creek this year. We enjoyed meeting all the new people, and always look forward to seeing our returing clientle and friends.
Sincerely,
The Ganes Creek Crew
