The largest nugget found at Ganes Creek weighed 122 ounces - over ten troy

pounds!

Ganes Creek has produced over 250,000 ounces of gold... and much of that gold

includes some of the largest nuggets ever found in Alaska. Thousands of acres of

tailing piles contain nuggets lost by bucketline dredges and inefficient bulldozer

operations of the past. The chances of finding very large nuggets on Ganes Creek

with a metal detector are some of the best in Alaska. Roads and trails run the

length of the operation, making for easy access. 2007 produced 35 more ounces than 2006!

Over the last seven years over 1,270 ounces of gold were found by prospecting metal detectors

on the Ganes Creek property.

The Second Week of Metal Detecting 2008

The Second Group of 2008 brought in 19.20 ounces, an almost identical feat

to the first group, who brought in 20.62 ounces. Nearly 40 ounces in two

weeks of metal detecting at Ganes Creek! Gerry McMullen on the last day

of detecting unearthed the biggest nugget of the week a 5.22 oz beauty,

which is featured, along with several other nuggets found during the week,

in our 'New Pictures' link below. We hope that everyone enjoyed their time

and we look forward to seeing familar faces in 2009.
